Guidelines

The Smugglers provides a warm and friendly atmosphere in its oak beamed bar and restaurant with open fires in both, essential when there’s a nautical nip in the air.

The restaurant is available for private hire, for all occasions and we do also welcome coach parties with advance notice.

For the warmer days we have a large garden area with children’s play area where they can pretend they are smugglers, or at least wear themselves out for you.

We have a large car park and are conveniently placed for the local campsites and holiday parks.

History

The Smugglers dates back to 1527 and is located in the Cinque Port of Pevensey.

We share our space with some interesting characters from the past, including a resident ghost; a young lady who only favours one end of the pub!

Pevensey is steeped in history, being the landing place of William the Conqueror in 1066 and home to to Pevensey Castle - originally one of the last and strongest of the Roman 'Saxon Shore' forts - as well as other great historical buildings such as Pevensey Court House & Gaol and St Nicolas' Church

Wine Tasting at the Smugglers

Come and celebrate the 1 year anniversary of Smugglers under this management!

Thursday 30th January - Wine Tasting Evening - 7pm for 7.30 start

Six delicious wines to taste with the help of our expert, Sue Brooker from Hatch.

The wines; a French rioja, an Australian Grenache, a Chilean Malbec, a Spanish Rose, a South African Chardonnay and a white rioja from Spain, some of which are already on the new wine list at the Smugglers but some are not. All coupled, by our expert, with cheese and biscuits.

A great time was had by all at our last wine tasting evening so I hope you come and enjoy this one in line with our anniversary. Costs are £15 per ticket and tickets need to be purchased in advance, call in at the pub and book now (payment in cash in person or by bank transfer or by cheque by post). 01323 762112.

Friday 31st January we will be having music and laughter with a free complimentary light buffet to say farewell to the first year and hello to the next year in trade at the Smugglers. We hope to see you there from 7pm.
